Newbery Honoree Ann Martin once again proves her versatility with an incredible stylistic departure in this "autobiography" of a stray dog.

Squirrel and her brother Bone begin their lives in a toolshed behind someone's summer house. Their mother nurtures them and teaches them the many skills they will need to survive as stray dogs. But when their mother is taken from them suddenly and too soon, the puppies are forced to make their own way in the world, facing humans both gentle and brutal, busy highways, other animals, and the changing seasons. When Bone and Squirrel become separated, Squirrel must fend for herself, and in the process, makes two friends who in very different ways define her fate.

I love how good this book is. My teacher last year read it to use and i loved it. It made may teacher cry at some parts and laugh at the others.

I really like this book because it puts things into a whole new perspective. Instead of writing in third person, the author makes it seem like the dog is an actual human being in a dog's body. The story is altogether a really sweet, cute and touching tale although there were sad parts where Squirrel (the dog) encountered obstacles. This book is really memorable because it's very different from the other dog novels. I also think the whole book is one big metaphor because it tells us about the obstacles in life and how we have to overcome them, so it was very inspirational for me. I totally recommend this book to all animal lovers! A must read!

This is really good book. I love dog books and so if you like dog books I really Recommend it

i think this is a wonderful book and if you haven't read it than to read it soon

It's such a cute and touching story. Squirrel has gone through a very difficult life, but that doesn't keep her from simply giving up because she is an admirable dog, and yes, dogs have traits that we can and should admire. At the end though, Squirrel's perseverance leads her to a wonderful surprise awaiting her.

This book is part of a story of Everything For A dog. Those two books are just about two puppies telling there life.

Yes, the first one is A Dog's Life, then it's Everything For A Dog.
