Newbery Honoree Ann Martin once again proves her versatility with an incredible stylistic departure in this "autobiography" of a stray dog.

Squirrel and her brother Bone begin their lives in a toolshed behind someone's summer house. Their mother nurtures them and teaches them the many skills they will need to survive as stray dogs. But when their mother is taken from them suddenly and too soon, the puppies are forced to make their own way in the world, facing humans both gentle and brutal, busy highways, other animals, and the changing seasons. When Bone and Squirrel become separated, Squirrel must fend for herself, and in the process, makes two friends who in very different ways define her fate.

Great story written from a dog's perspective! Made me laugh and cry! I did not want the book to end!

i loved this book so much.I love it because it is sad and happy. My favorite part is when Susan the old lady takes care of Squirrel .It is also so sad when Bone,Moon, and his mom die.I LOVE IT SO MUCH!

I love this book best book ever made

I liked this book a lot. It is told from the perspective a dog named Squirrel, who goes through different stages in life. First she's with her mother and brother, Bone. Then (SPOILER ALERT) her mother disappears and she has to live her life only with her brother, Bone. Later in the book, she has to be alone, until she meets new friends and people along the way. Some of the people were kind ones, and some were cruel. You can really tell how a stray dog's life is like. I EXTREMELY recommend this book to animal lovers...

I decided to read this book because it really shows the life of a dog, and it s point of view on different things.

This is a great book! I absolutely love dogs! I felt so bad for (SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) for Moon when she died. I would also recommend a book called A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron and its sequel; A Dog's Journey.
