Since The Book of Three was first published in 1964, young readers have been enthralled by the adventures of Taran the Assistant Pig-Keeper and his quest to become a hero. Taran is joined by an engaging cast of characters that includes Eilonwy, the strong-willed and sharp-tongued princess; Fflewddur Fflam, the hyperbole-prone bard; the ever-faithful Gurgi; and the curmudgeonly Doliall of whom have become involved in an epic struggle between good and evil that shapes the fate of the legendary land of Prydain. Released over a period of five years, Lloyd Alexander's beautifully written tales not only captured children's imaginations but also garnered the highest critical praise. The Black Cauldron was a Newbery Honor Book, and the final volume in the chronicles, The High King, crowned the series by winning the Newbery Medal for ""the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children."" Henry Holt is proud to present this classic series in a new, redesigned paperback format. The jackets feature stunning art by acclaimed fantasy artist David Wyatt, giving the books a fresh look for today's generation of young fantasy lovers. In their more than thirty years in print, the Chronicles of Prydain have become the standard of excellence in fantasy literature for children. This title has Common Core connections.

The boy named Taran, who is from the city of Caer Dallben, lives on the farm with one retired soldier, Coll, and an ancient enchanter. The magical animal, Hen Wen, esapced the farm, so that caused Taran to leave the farm to look for her, that is when he met an prince, Prince Gwydion, who is also went out looking for Hen Wen. But nearly in the middle of the book, Gwydion is killed by someone who lived at Castle Archren, met an princess named Eilonwy, who is learning the enchantress from the Queen Archren, her aunt. I`m not going to spoil more of the VERY good book! I totally recommend this book `cause I rate this 5 stars!

Taran assistant pig-keeper has always dreamed of a life of adventure, and the glory of battles, and now life at Caer Dallben is as slow as ever. But then something strange happens, and all of the animals at Caer Dallben flee, including Prydains only oracular pig, Hen Wen. Now Taran must journey with Prince Gwydion, so that Hen Wen can give an important prophecy needed to defeat the Horned king. But Taran and Gwydion are captured by an evil sorceress, and when Taran escapes he fears Gwydion dead. Now Taran and his newly made friends must journey to warn the Sons of Don about the Horned King and his approaching army. Will the Horned King prevail? Or will Taran and his friends make it in time? This book was a page turner for sure, with action jumping out at every corner, and Lloyd Alexander definitely developed his characters well.

It is really good! I'll Wright a proper review when I finish it!
