Oversized illustrated hardback edition of the first part of JRR Tolkien's epic masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings, fully reset and featuring full-page watercolour paintings by award-winning artist, Alan Lee. Sauron, the Dark Lord, has gathered to him all the Rings of Power -- the means by which he intends to rule Middle-earth. All he lacks in his plans for dominion is the One Ring -- the ring that rules them all -- which has fallen into the hands of the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins. In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care. Frodo must leave his home and make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose.

- When Frodo , a hobbit, inherits Bag End from his cousin Bilbo , he also inherits a ring. It looked like any ordinary ring, but in reality, it was the most powerful ring in Middle Earth. Not only can it make the wearer invisible, it is the Ruling Ring. If the Dark Lord, Sauron, gets hold of it, he will become invincible. After Frodo learns about this, he sets off with his companions, the Fellowship of the Ring to throw the ring into the Fire Mountain, the only way to destroy the ring. I liked the plot of the story, but sometimes the book gets a little boring. I recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy.
- Did you guys know Tolkien fought in ww1 at the somme? Anyway these books are awesome same with the hobbit. The movies are great too. But they're so long. Each one is like 3 hr and 30 min or longer.
- bmoneystudiesover 1 yearIf you haven't read Lord of the Rings yet I definitely recommend that you start reading. Chances are that you've already seen the movies but you should still read it even if you have. I am in the middle of reading Lord of the rings and it is absolutely amazing!
- Did you know that J.R.R. Tolkien (the author of The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings) is actually friends with C.S. Lewis (the author of Narnia)? They both write very good books and if you didn't read them then I reccomend it to anybody who loves reading.
- so goood.
- BEST BOOK EVER!!! (tied with the other books in the series) FRODO BE BEST BOI!!!!!!!!!!!!
- This is INCREDIBLE! It's like Harry Potter and the hunger games!
- This book is AMAZING!!!! It is super detailed and action-packed. Definitely 5-star! J.R.R. Tolkien is a great author. But before you read this book you should read The Hobbit, and after you read it you should read The Two Towers and The Return of the King, the two Lord of the Rings books that come after and conclude this epic story.
- This book hooked me right from the start. It is so interesting, I couldn't put it down. I gave this book 5 stars because it was very descriptive and thrilling.
- So different from the movie. I thought that since the movie was so long they wouldn't miss any details but boy was I wrong. The book is really good though, as is the movie.
