I liked this book even more than Wednesday Wars! This book isn't really a sequel, but carries on the story of one of the characters in Wednesday Wars. Now we really understand why Doug Swieteck is the way he is in Wednesday Wars. The book made me sad and it made me happy. It made me want to keep reading to see how life would turn out for Doug. Life has many ups and downs for him and as he says just when things start going good, then they seem to turn bad. Somehow, Doug manages to get through it all and you understand that you can't judge a book (or a person) by their cover. Really interesting use of Doug learning to draw Audubon Birds as a part of the story - this may sound boring, but it isn't.Over 11 years agoandrewsreads added a book review.
Anyone who has been annoyed by the things that their parents say or do will relate to this book. This is the story of a teenage girl coming to understand and appreciate her own mother and her own culture during an important time in American history. Makes for good companion books to My Crazy Summer and Wednesday Wars in that it is another perspective of social movements in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. All three books speak of different movements from the perspective of three unique main characters.Over 11 years agoandrewsreads has read this book.

An amazing book! Interesting, funny, poignant, compelling, inspiring! Written from the perspective of different characters in the story so you see what each person is thinking. Be kind!Over 11 years agoandrewsreads has read this book.
