I have read this book multiple times, and it continues to be one of my favorites. August Pullman is no ordinary kid. He was born with a facial abnormality, which causes him to look deformed. When 5th grade is right around the corner, his mother urges him to go to public school, which is a big change because he has been homeschooled his whole life. As the story progresses, it is told through the points of view of different people, showing that there is always at least two sides of the story. This book is great for 4th graders and up, because it really teaches an important lesson that everyone hears, but few people learn: Don't judge a book by it's cover.Over 5 years ago3009215 has joined a reading program.

I want to win this book series because I love all things Rick Riordan! He writes the best books! Mythology is the best, and he blends it perfectly with all the modern spins he adds to it. The Kane Chronicles are awesome! I have read them all once, but it would be so cool to own them, because A) I could read them over and over again (I do that with my Percy Jackson Series) B) I can let my best friend borrow them ( She is a Rick Riordan dork just like me!) C) I am trying to get my sister to read mythology, and this would be the perfect way to lead her into it! (I ruined greek mythology with all my ranting! Oops!) So I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY WANT TO WIN because all of the reasons listed above! I know that I sound like I am begging for my life, but this is a chance to win Rick Riordan books! Thank you DOGO news and Disney Hyperion for a chance to win these books! Even if I don't win, at least I know other people with get to know the joys of reading Rick Riordan books. Thank you!Over 6 years ago3009215's book review was featured in The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 1).
Rick Riordan starts his thrilling Percy Jackson Series with this book! Percy Jackson, a juvenile delinquent who has ADHD and dyslexia has a strange life. Trouble follows him like flies follow the scent of food. When a fury reveals itself as Percy's pre-algebra, he starts to suspect his true identity. When the minotaur follows him and his mother to there cabin in Mountauk when they are on vacation. Grover Underwood, Percy's best friend, now reveals that he is his protector and a satyr! When everything that was right seems wrong, and everything he has known is gone, he finds that his father is the god Poseidon, and the gods are real! I recommend this book series to kids 7 and up because of the humor and action. I wouldn't recommend any lower than that because some parts are a little scary. I give it four stars not because it is a bad book, because it is four stars compared to other books in the series, like the titan's curse.Over 6 years ago3009215 added a book review.

Rick Riordan kicks off his new book series with his first book of The Gods of Asgard Series! Magnus Chase, a homeless teenager who became when his mother Natalie died, soon discovers his other parent; his father is the god Frey! He also learns that his two best friends, Hearthstone and Blitzen are an elf (Hearth), and a dwarf (Blitz). As his world gets turns upside down, his Uncle Randolph suddenly appears, saying that there family had attracted the gods for many generations. He wants Magnus to find the sword that he has lost his family for while searching. While on a bridge to fetch the sword from the Boston Harbor, a fire giant attacks, killing Magnus right after Magnus finds Sumbrander, the sword (aka Jack). Samirah, a Valkyrie, takes him to Valhalla, the land of deceased heroes, where he is told he wasn't meant to die, but cannot go back to the living because he has already seen Valhalla. As the story continues, Magnus and his friends are put on quest to stop Fenris Wolf from breaking his chains and starting Ragnarok. Riordan uses humor to smooth out all of parts that might be scary for some readers making it the perfect read! I rate this book 5 stars because it is the perfect blend of funny, scary, and , of course, mythology!Over 6 years ago3009215's book review was featured in Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard Book 1 The Sword of Summer.

Rachel Renee Russell starts the adventure of Nikki Maxwell with this book. As Nikki attends a new private school, due to her dad's extermination contract, Nikki does everything in her power to prevent people from finding out. She makes new friends, Chloe Garcia, and Zoey Franklin who help throughout the story, whether it's defending her from Mackenzie, helping her with the Avant-Garde competition, our spying on her and Brandon Roberts, you know they'll be there. IN the end, Nikki learns that it's cool to be a dork! I give this book five stars because Russell uses humor and things many of us could relate to too tell the story.Over 6 years ago
