Attention all comic book lovers! Saturday May 1st 2010, is Free Comic Book Day - A wonderful amazing event, when participating vendors all across the globe, hand out one (or more) comic books free to every person, who steps into their stores.

Now in it's 8th year, the event takes place on the first Saturday of May, and while the selection of free comic books differs every year, there is always at least one superhero comic book available.

The choice of superhero comic book depends on the movie being released. Last year, it was X-Men Origins:Wolverine. This year, it will be 'Iron Man/Thor', to celebrate the release of Iron Man 2 on May 7th.

Other Comic Books that made this year's giveaway list include 'Shrek & The Penguins of Madagascar', a special edition of 'Toy Story', 'GI Joe : A Real American Hero' and 'War of the Superman'. To check out the full list click on http://www.freecomicbookday.com/comics.asp.

You should visit you a participating vendor, even if none of the comics on the free list appeal to you. That's because almost every comic book in the shop will be discounted, so that vendors can attract more repeat customers.

Free Comic Book day, which started in the USA and has now spread across many parts of the world, was organised to introduce more people to comic books and also to show appreciation to existing readers. Since it began in 2002, vendors have given away more than 12 million special Free Comic Book editions and the numbers are growing every year.
