Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars.

Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there.

After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive.

Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

“The Martian” is a Science Fiction novel by Andy Weir. The story follows Mark Watney who is stranded on Mars. Mark is a funny guy who constantly makes jokes. “I spent the rest of my day enjoying a potato. And by ‘enjoying’ I mean ‘hating so much I want to kill people’”. This is an interesting contrast to the setting which is a nice break from the seriousness of the story. The Martian is an amazing book which is able to blend so many topics together, it is funny but also can be sad and scary however Andy Weir is able to blend these topics together with ease and make a masterpiece of a book. The Martian is an amazing read with an awesome character, funny interactions, and thrilling story.

This book is about botanist Mark Watney he went on Mars with his crew but a satellite crashes into him and he is hurt pretty bad he wakes up and finds out that his crew left him on Mars he has to survive by growing potatoes from his own poop on Mars, until a rescue is conducted. I made a connection to this book by liking science a lot I gave this book 5 stars because the interesting plot and super cool facts.

OH MY GOD!!! READ IT!! This book is about a botanist that is funny (and curses a lot!) . He’s smart and resourceful and survived on mars for 4 YEARS on his own 💩 poop. He grew 🥔 potatoes in them. I recommend this book to comedy sci-fi lovers. READ!!!!

"Hey there." declared Mark Watney to his first potato plant. This was an interesting book. I enjoyed reading it, but at the same time I was pulled onto Mars and into Mark's world. He had a lot of food-the rest of his crew aborted misson and left him there, supposedly dead. But no! He was alive, and (partially) well. (Except for the fact that a satellite slammed into him and stabbed him, but that's unimportant.) With the potatoes in his food stash, he decided to grow some. And maybe set himself on fire once. Maybe. Then, his potatoes died. Nobody likes cold temperatures on Mars. Then, Rich Purnell decides to try to help save him. NASA declines. But the rest of the Ares III crew (those rebels!) use Rich's maneuver. And Mark is saved. The rest you know.
