By #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black, the first book in a stunning new series about a mortal girl who finds herself caught in a web of royal faerie intrigue.

Of course I want to be like them. They're beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.

And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.

Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.

To win a place at the Court, she must defy him--and face the consequences.

In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed. But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

"Have I told you how hideous you look tonight?" Now that is just a taste of Cardan's personality, like a crumb of bread. And do not fear for this book does not follow the life of Cardan but of Jude, Jude Duarte. Jude has lived in Faerie for a very long time and if you're wondering what type of superpowers she has, well, no, she doesn't have one, she's not even Fae! Is she a troll or a pixie? No, she is a perfectly normal human. Other than the fact that her half sister, Vivienne, is Fae, her guardian killed her parents, she makes her archnemesis aka Cardan the High King of Faerie, wait what? *coughs* Pretend i never said any of this...... ahhh, now I've got you interested huh? Well, to bad, because you have to read the book! Trust me, this book will get you hooked. I recommend this book for ages 11+. Happy Reading!

OH MY G-D. THIS BOOK IS AMAZING. like, i couldn't put it down and i've read it like fifteen thousand times. MY LORD THIS BOOK ROCKS. I've read the first three and now i'm looking for the lost sisters!!! OH MY G-D (i'm not swearing, I'm just jewish so I can't spell or write the lord's name)

i saw this on the high school bookshelf, but it looked really good so i got it anyway. And if you are more of an advanced reader, this book is for you! It actually doean't have any swearing, just a bit of violence that any person would want in a book. There is never a part that make you want to put it down. Also, there are 4 books. The cruel prince, the wicked king, the queen of nothing, and the lost sisters. This is a MUST READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I loved this book, Holly Black is one of my favorite author's of all time.

I want to read this book because I love the author Holly Black with her horror and paranormal novels. I just enjoy reading them.

Holly Black is one of my favorite authors (after Janet Fox) and I loved her story Doll Bones so this must be a chilling book too.
