The Clay Marble by Minfong Ho is a historical story about the Vietnam War. I recommend it to grades 3-5 and it should take you 1-3 days to read it. I enjoyed reading this but it has some sad parts, happy parts, and hopeful parts. It's about a girl named Dara and her family that need to survive the Vietnam War but they get separated so Dara and her new friend from the Border, Jantu, need to find their family but Jantu's baby brothers foot get's hit by a bomb and she has to go to the hospital and Dara needs to find her family and Jantu's. Dara's scared so Jantu makes a clay marble and tells Dara that if she believes in the marble, it will help her and so Dara is left all alone, on the trail while people scream and run. I really enjoyed this book and if you want to find out if Dara survives the Vietnam War than you should read this book.
