It's 1952 and the Scott family has just moved from Los Angeles to London. Here, fourteen-year-old Janie meets a mysterious apothecary and his son, Benjamin Burrows - a fascinating boy who's not afraid to stand up to authority and dreams of becoming a spy. When Benjamin's father is kidnapped, Janie and Benjamin must uncover the secrets of the apothecary's sacred book, the Pharmacopoeia, in order to find him, all while keeping it out of the hands of their enemies - Russian spies in possession of nuclear weapons. Discovering and testing potions they never believed could exist, Janie and Benjamin embark on a dangerous race to save the apothecary and prevent impending disaster.

Together with Ian Schoenherr's breathtaking illustrations, this is a truly stunning package from cover to cover.

The Apothecary IS SUCH A GOOD BOOK. It follows the story of a girl named Janie who has just moved to London and an apothecary’s son, Benjamin. After the two meet they become close friends. When the apothecary, Benjamin’s father, goes missing, Janie and Benjamin take it upon themselves to rescue him. Left with the apothecary’s mysterious book, they find that there are recipes for magical spells that they never have even dreamed of on its worn pages. Now armed with the confidence of the book and the secrets of magic, they embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey. But will even magic be enough? And will they be able to rescue Benjamin’s dad before it’s too late? I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH. Please, please, please read it! :)
