Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before - and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

The Hunger Games is a story of rebellion. The main characters are Katniss and Peeta. These two characters are each in a very poor family. In the world of the Hunger Games, America is split up into 12 Districs. Every District is known for what supplies they give to the capitol. Katniss and Peeta live in District 12, the final District known for Coal Mining. Every year, the capitol picks two tributes to compete in the annual Hunger Games. 24 tributes are thrown into an arena to fight to the death. Katniss and Peeta must find a way to survive the games, and rebel from the Capitol's evil grasp on America's Districs.

The Hunger Games is the most powerful book I have read. This story tells the truths of what happens in an after-destruction world society where people are forced to send their children into a battle to the death. Definitely put this on the top of your list.
