Eleven-year-old Isabella’s blended family is more divided than ever in this thoughtful story about divorce and racial identity from the award-winning and New York Times bestselling author of Out of My Mind, Sharon M. Draper.

Eleven-year-old Isabella’s parents are divorced, so she has to switch lives every week: One week she’s Isabella with her dad, his girlfriend Anastasia, and her son Darren living in a fancy house where they are one of the only black families in the neighborhood. The next week she’s Izzy with her mom and her boyfriend John-Mark in a small, not-so-fancy house that she loves.

Because of this, Isabella has always felt pulled between two worlds. And now that her parents are divorced, it seems their fights are even worse, and they’re always about HER. Isabella feels even more stuck in the middle, split and divided between them than ever. And she’s is beginning to realize that being split between Mom and Dad is more than switching houses, switching nicknames, switching backpacks: it’s also about switching identities. Her dad is black, her mom is white, and strangers are always commenting: “You’re so exotic!” “You look so unusual.” “But what are you really?” She knows what they’re really saying: “You don’t look like your parents.” “You’re different.” “What race are you really?” And when her parents, who both get engaged at the same time, get in their biggest fight ever, Isabella doesn’t just feel divided, she feels ripped in two. What does it mean to be half white or half black? To belong to half mom and half dad? And if you’re only seen as half of this and half of that, how can you ever feel whole?

It seems like nothing can bring Isabella’s family together again—until the worst happens. Isabella and Darren are stopped by the police. A cell phone is mistaken for a gun. And shots are fired.

this book is about a twelve year old girl. her dad is black and her mother is white. she loves playing the piano.I love this book because it talks about the real world.😊😊😍😍😁👍👍👍

"You're so exotic looking!" "Are you mixed?" Those are some things Isabella Badia Thornton hears said to her. She is a regular fifth grader at Lakeview Mountain School. Her two best friends are Heather and Imani. Her mom is white. Her dad is black. And she has a problem. After a noose is hung in her friend Imani's locker, she gets scared. All those rumors! The only thing Isabella can come home to is the fact that she'll have to switch houses next week. She doesn't really live anywhere. She just is an every other week visitor. Her life is getting more complicated as her two parents are getting married...ON THE SAME DAY!! Disaster is at hand and arguments are had. Then, on the way to a recital, Isabella's phone is mistaken for a gun. Shots are fired. Can Isabella's parents come together to be kind to each.other for their daughter's sake?

I really liked this book. It's about a girl named Issabella (Izzy for short) who's parents get divorced. I like to read long books that take me a while to finish.

It took forever to read (Well, actually 3 days.) It was good but that part at the end would terrify some peopel.

This is my definitely my favorite book. It has a pretty good ending and great characters. My sister likes it to.

Have you ever felt like you don't know if you are this or that? Maybe you felt torn apart. Or maybe you even felt like you don't belong. Then welcome to Isabella's world. Her life hasn't been easy. Well, it's easier if I start from the beginning. Isabella's parents' got a divorce, one of the worst things that could possibly happen (her mom is white and her dad is black). Now, she goes to her moms house, then the next week her dads house, then switch and the same thing over and over. It makes her feel like a visitor because she can't live in a permanent place. After the divorce her mom has a new boyfriend and her dad has a new girlfriend. So much is going on, it's hard for Isabella to take in. After a few months or so Isabella's friend finds a noose in her gym locker. Suddenly, there are more questions than answers! Who would do such a thing to one of her best friends? While the mystery is still not solved other things are going on, that is her moms boyfriend proposed to her mom and her dad proposed to his girlfriend! Not only that ,she has a piano competition coming up! As she is on her way to the competition they get stopped by the police. What is going on? Hands up! Isabella is scared and as she is pulling her phone out from her pocket to text her parents, BANG! She falls to the floor. My thoughts: Wow! What a fantastic book! There was so much going on in this book that sadly, I just could not fit it in my review. But if I can't fit it in my review and you want to know what happens then you have to get this book! Isabella is very inspiring! She has gone through so much but she just keeps going!I recommend you read this book!!! And I hope after you read this book you will also be inspired. Have an awesome day!
