Ah, yes, The Old Willis Place is a beautiful and chilling ghost story! It was a page-turner for me. Mary Downing Hahn creates a nice, slow build-up. There are secrets and rules with Diana and Georgie on the farm of Oak Hill Manor. While reading, my mind was going in several different directions anticipating the end result.Almost 6 years agowiccanbat666 added a book review.
I like children's books and I am not even going to invent an excuse for reading this one. I read it because I wanted to. There. I read it because I wanted to read a story about a princess who kisses a frog. Things went slighlty wrong and the frog prince didn't turn into a human prince, instead the princess turn into a frog. And then they have a lot of adventures and epiphanies. I liked how the frog prince was bent on saving and protecting the princess but somehow was always either asleep or not around when the danger struck, and the princess had to take care of herself (Bella, you look and learn). There was a lot of humour in the book (a pretend witch was called Vannabe) and no one was exceptionally pretty, people were short, had big noses, etc. And definitely no one sparkled in the sun.Almost 6 years agowiccanbat666 added a book review.
E.D. Baker does it again! Another suspense-filled book. Things I loved: the characters, Emma's growing relationship with Eadric, and the funny times. Things I didn't like: nothing. Everything was really well-done.Almost 6 years agowiccanbat666 added a book review.
Another quick read. I love Prince Eadric's devotion to Emma and his willingness to do anything for her and her Kingdom. A strong bold knight with a sense of justice and a deep love for the Kingdom. I loved the new characters - Emma's ancestors.Almost 6 years agowiccanbat666 added a book review.
In the course of 5 years, I’ve read this book nearly 17 times. That adds up to reading it once at least every 4 months, on an average. And I still return to this book like a bark seeking a lighthouse in the dark. When I first finished it, I was so overwhelmed by how much I related to it, I read it nearly 8 times before the year ended. By now I’ve memorized almost every scene and I still can’t shake off the feeling that I still have to learn a lot from it.Almost 6 years agowiccanbat666 added a book review.
A lot of talking; less action. I like the writing style; it's beautiful . The words blend together perfectly. KY and Cassia have a perfect chemistry. The way their love story blossom, oh so sweet ♥ I don't want to live inside this book. Creepy. They don't have a choice in whatever they do. Ms. Ally Condie did a great job with this book! The ending is quite fast. I can't wait to read Crossed!Almost 6 years agowiccanbat666's book review was featured in Fairest.
I pulled this book off of the Young Adult shelves expecting some light fiction, but I really enjoyed some of the deeper meanings behind this story! Yes, it is a retelling of Snow White, but with insights that really apply to most women today. First of all, the two most prominent female characters are alike in that they find themselves unacceptable- like two sides of a coin, even their names are like each other. One, however, becomes the villain, and the other, the heroine. But Levine paints the two characters so you can see how one, in coming to accept herself as she is, finds happiness and bestows grace on those around her, and how the other, in hating herself and trying to be other than what she is, ends up destroying the kingdom.Almost 6 years agowiccanbat666 added a book review.
This book is a journey. A dangerous and exhausting one, but it is perfect. The canyons are the exact opposite of Oria, where the first book takes place. The first and the second book are generally exact opposites and this is what makes these books so amazing! Both books are authentic and thrilling and at the same time both are filled with an surprising depth through poetry. I love it!Almost 6 years agowiccanbat666 added a book review.
It's worth reading. Awesome. And even thought there were somethings I didn't really like it is enjoyable and it was worth my time. I do not regret reading this book at all. I loved the ending and I was kind of sad that the world of Cassia, Ky, and Xander was over. And I also think that there should have been a fourth book. I mean, we got to see Cassia and Ky's love story. What about Xanders?Almost 6 years agowiccanbat666 added a book review.
