Dragonhaven is about a young boy who lives at the Institute in a national park. This particular national park had dragons in it. Jake is the boy's name, and he is finally going on his first overnight solo in the park. On this overnight peculiar things happen. Jake mostly remembers the mother dragon and the baby dragon. The baby dragon ends up with Jake. As the evening goes on the night of the solo Jake is found by Billy, a ranger. Then the real adventure starts when Jake becomes a junior ranger to hide the baby dragon. I connected this book to when I babysit because my siblings are always needing something. I rated this book four stars because well it was good it got boring when he talked about the history of the national park.About 4 years agomary_soccer14 added a book review.
Hurricane Katrina was a devastating hurricane that hit the Gulf in 2005. It hit hard, but this was predicted. People did not believe that it would actually happen or they couldn't leave, so they were in the flooding and storm. People had to climb on their roofs because their house was flooding to the top. Rescuers couldn't come far in until the winds had died down more. People were trapped where they were until a helicopter or other rescue vehicle could get to them. I may not directly relate to the hardships people faced in that time, but my sister was born in 2005. I relate to the book through m family. I rated this book five stars because it was very interesting; it was enticing enough that you would never want to put it down.About 4 years agomary_soccer14 has read this book.

This book is amazing! It is about three different kids escaping their home countries to freedom. Isabel, a Cuban girl, is escaping in a small boat with her pregnant mother on board. The boat is built by family friends that were willing to lend a helping hand. Mahmoud, a Syrian boy, is escaping by foot and boat. He goes through many hard times on his long journey to Europe. Josef, a Jew, is escaping Nazi, Germany with his mother, father, and little sister Ruthie. He goes through challenges regarding his father who was captured and taken to a concentration camp where he was scarred for life. I made a connection to this book because I have read other books by Alan Gratz and with similar war-like themes. I would give this book a five-star rating because it is so enticing and makes you want to keep reading. I would recommend this book to 5th-7th graders.About 4 years agoolive_tree18 added a book review.
