I love this book because I can relate to it so easily! Rainbow Rowell makes it easy for readers to immerse themselves into Cath’s world, because so many of us readers are fans of something, and we all know what it’s like to be a fangirl. It was extremely relatable for me, because I write a lot of fanfiction in my spare time and I completely know what it’s like to be obsessed with something and kind of discriminated because of what I’m interested in. This book is so underrated. It might not be suitable for younger readers as it contains more mature language, but I couldn’t stop reading this book. The reader can follow Cath’s journey throughout the book as she transfers from an introverted freshman to a more mature and confident college student without letting go of what she really loves. I admire Cath’s attitude a lot because she’s stubborn about her passions and doesn’t let anything get in the way of her writing. She’s also very hardworking and concentrates on her schoolwork in spite of numerous distractions that include an intimidating roommate, her boyfriend who is always hanging around, and a guy in her writing class that doesn’t seem to care about her. I totally recommend this book!Over 8 years agoangelay added a book review.
I really like Hatchet because it’s packed with action and never seems to get boring. This kid is stranded in the wilderness after a plane crash and he has to survive with only a hatchet his mother gave him. I really liked the part where Brian, the main character, had to build his own shelter and hunt for his own food and adapt to the wilderness by himself. The story is very immersive because the author uses a lot of descriptive phrases to make the reader feel like he/she is actually there, it makes up a lot of what I like about Hatchet. However, I think that the book is just a little unrealistic because of how Brian quickly adapts to the wild. Hatchet also taught me a lesson that I really appreciated, and that is to never give up. For example when Brian feels hopeless and thinks that he will never get out of his situation, he still continues to try and survive, regardless of how he might have felt. I think this really affected the story because right after he refuses to give up, something good happens to him (not going to spoil it). So yes I love this action packed book :) (4/5 stars)Over 8 years agomegank added a book review.
Maze Runner, by James Dasher, is the best book I've read during winter vacation. The story begins where Thomas awakens in an underground elevator and has forgotten everything except his name. He arrives at a small society called the Glades where teenage boys each contribute there and a group called the Runners try to solve the maze. I love how this book is very mysterious, exciting, and full of action, but also somewhat realistic and you can understand how each character feels, especially Thomas. One of my favorite scenes is where Thomas runs out the walls to help Minho and Alby even though he knew he'd get killed by the Grievers. Unlike all the other Gladers that screamed and were frightened about Minho and Alby's situation, Thomas was courageous and risked his life to help them. Not only that, but when Minho abandoned them and ran for his life, Thomas helped Alby to escape from the Grievers. If you like a book with action, violence and mysteries, you should definitely read this book, especially to Hunger Games and Divergent fans!Over 8 years agomegank's book review was featured in Unleashed (Uninvited).
Unleashed, by Sophie Jordan, is the sequel to Uninvited and it is amazing! After Davy escaped Mount Haven with Sean, Gil, and Sabine, they were attacked by patrols and they were forced to be separated. Davy was saved by a blond, courageous guy named Caden Anderson, who was revealed to be the leader of the Resistance. She was then brought to their underground cell where carriers were able to act freely. Gradually, Caden and Davy both develop feelings for each other. Yet, should Davy let her heart free and live a life of purpose? Or will she be ruled and determine by the kill genes? My favorite character in this book is definitely Caden because he is brave, thoughtful, and truly cares about carriers. This book is full of action, romance, and is extremely thrilling. People should definitely read it, especially people who love Divergent, you won't regret!Over 8 years agomegank added a book review.
