The Selection is a great book full of humor, romance, drama, and some action. This book is about a 16 year old girl named America Singer who lives in a dystopian society called Illea. In this kingdom there are castes (social groups). America is a 5. Her family is poor but happy. However, there is a contest called the Selection in which America enlists, even though she has a boyfriend named Aspen. This contest is for marriage to Illea's prince, Maxon. America is one of the 35 girls chosen to compete. Then right before the contest Aspen broke up with her, shattering her heart. She and Maxon become good friends quickly, and then more. By the end of the book her heart is torn between Aspen and Maxon. Who will she choose? Read this amazing book and the rest of the series to find out. Last year, in grade 4, I never really understood the quote, or the concept (as my mom calls it), beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but when I read this it not only help me understand that but it also helped me understand that we judge people too much by their looks and not by personality. If I were in Auggie's shoes I wouldn't know how to deal with it. Wonder explores how a middle grade student survives having a deformed face while surviving school as well. This is my favorite book of all time and I recommend this to those who are victims of bullies and for those who just need an inspiring bookAbout 7 years agojaz123713 added a book review.
