Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he's pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he's never met.

Incredibly funny and poignant, this twenty-first-century coming-of-age, coming out story—wrapped in a geek romance—is a knockout of a debut novel by Becky Albertalli.

When did she start writing the book?

Oh my god! I love this book!! I saw the trailer for the movie and saw a little bit of myself in the main character. I really decided to read it because I have to wait until March to check out more of a graphic novel series I am reading. Thinking it would last me until March, I read it in less then two days. I don't regret reading this at all!

This is a really sweet book and I love all of the characters in it.

Looks so cool! I would love to read something as funny as it.

This book is really, really great. Something I really liked about it was that it had so many references to pop culture and how it seemed so real. Something else I really liked about this book was how its main character - and narrator - is canonically gay. I found the ending very predictable, I could tell from about 100 pages in how it was going to end, but I still enjoyed the ride there. Highly recommend if you like clever and relatable stories.
